South Dakota voters handed a constitutional modification in November 2020 to legalize leisure pot, medical marijuana and hemp. However Republican Gov. Kristi Noem challenged its constitutionality, and the state Supreme Courtroom dominated it needs to be nullified final yr.

Helene Duhamel, who additionally works for the Pennington County Sheriff’s Workplace, pushed for the invoice revision as manner to make sure the state’s present pot possession legal guidelines are enforced.

The proposals would rid the state’s current medical marijuana law of a provision that permits sufferers with debilitating medical situations to keep away from prison expenses for pot possession in the event that they haven’t obtained a marijuana identification card.
